Optimal Operational Planning of RES and HESS in Smart Grids Considering Demand Response and DSTATCOM Functionality of the Interfacing Inverters

With countries moving toward renewable energy sources (RES), the need for dispatchability and storage solutions has become more prevalent. The uncertainty associated with wind turbine (WT) units photovoltaic (PV) systems further complex a system high level of intermittency. This work addresses this problem by proposing an operational planning approach to determine optimal allocation WT units, PV systems, hybrid (HESS) in smart grids. proposed considers uncertainties RES load demand, price-based demand response, distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) functionality interfacing inverters. is divided into two subcategories: (1) long-term (2) operation. In first problem, probabilistic models reflect on sizes locations used technologies. optimized via operation grid. formulated as nested optimization that guarantees HESS simultaneously. tested IEEE 33-bus solved using meta-heuristic mathematical algorithms. effectiveness demonstrated set case studies. results demonstrate optimally allocates 30.4% cost reduction 19% voltage profile improvement.
